Luis Radford

Luis Radford is an emeritus professor at Laurentian University in Canada. He is a sociocultural theorist and a classroom-based researcher. His research focuses on the teaching and learning of mathematics, the development of algebraic thinking, and the relationship between self, cognition, and culture. He has been developing a cultural-historical theory of teaching-learning—the theory of objectification. Radford is one of the editors of Educational Studies in Mathematics. He is the recipient of the 2011 Hans Freudenthal Medal, awarded by the International Commission on Mathematical Instruction (ICMI).
